Paint thickness...

Post by miles@triumf.ca »

Hi. What is the typical thickness of the powder coat paint?

Further to that, is there a way to not have the paint coat the cut edge of a hole/cutout? I'm not sure that is even possible, short of cutting out the opening after the powder coat which seems a bass-ackwards.

I'm asking as my connectors are very tight in the cutout openings, and I think it may be the paint making the difference. I'm not sure yet, I've not had much chance to actually investigate. I did allow for a gap all around the connectors, but the board designer didn't leave me much space to provide a metal web between openings.

Also, somewhat related: what is your typical text alignment tolerance when doing premium graphics? I can live with what I got, but it really isn't lined up evenly around the cutouts.

Hello Miles,

Our tolerances are on the website. Took me a little bit to find but here it is https://www.protocase.com/resources/tol ... tolerances.

If you go to finish tolerances and powdercoat you can see it 0.003".

For graphic tolerances you can also find it on the website but it's under Graphics tolerances. https://www.protocase.com/resources/tol ... tolerances

Process Tolerance
Silkscreen Positional ± 0.020" | 0.51mm
Digital Printing Positional ± 0.020" | 0.51mm

Best Regards,
Matt
