specifying the default fixing screws from the design stage ?

Until now, I always had to ask for screw positioning of the upper cover in the approval process, since Protocase Designer didn't offer this adjustment.

Has this changed in recent versions ? For example, on a rackmount case, can I specify (modify) right from the start the horizontal position for a particular fixing screw on top cover ?

Hello Cristi,

Am not sure what exactly you mean. The screw positions for fastening the cover to the chassis is not editable by regular users but our EDS can adjust these if you let them know. Normally our templated designs have a "good" placement of screws and because of that the idea is you don't have to adjust. My question is, have the screws not been in the correct places for your designs and how would they needed to be changed? You can share pictures as it may help me understand.

Thank you,
Matt

I've been told that things have changed since my previous orders, the current process dropped the SolidWorks road and so the approval process can be skipped. If so, where or when can one change the case screw positions ?

At least in my case, I always had problems with those screws. There were situations where a default screw comes way too close to some printed circuit component (from above), or to the circuit itself (from below, in non-bend rear version), or there is a fear that someone will remove and then put back the cover for some reason, possibly using a longer screw than the one provided and as a consequence the longer screw may touch some electronic or (worse) high voltage electric things inside. All this can be avoided by carefully design the screw positioning (in combination with carefully designing the inside circuits themselves, of course).

See below the images from one of my past order. You can observe the default screw positions as originally set by Protocase Designer, then the screw positions in the EDRW file after I made a specific request during the approval process and then the physical case where you can observe the actual reason for my request.

I also think it should be more convenient to make the fixing screw positions adjustable during the design stage, so one can think and evaluate its case quietly and without stress.

What I am wondering is why am I the only one who asked about this.

Cristi

Note: there is also a problem with this forum, either board style, because of which I cannot use the BBCode img tag; therefore, I point to my images below as direct links (instead of showing them in embedded mode); "Disable BBCode" option is not checked, but the forum acts like it was checked – also "Do not automatically parse URLs" is not checked, but the forum does not parse my links to URL.

Sorry, I swear I replied to this all ready.

I looked at your pictures and cool enclosure and I see what you mean.

For your question, "If so, where or when can one change the case screw positions "

To update the screw positions in the Protocase Designer file we will need get designer services team to help us. Few ways we can do this. What I would do is add a note to your enclosure in Protocase Designer on how you want your screws moved and tell us to contact you for more details. Also, when ordering using the online ordering page from Protocase Designer you have the ability to enter even more notes, if you think you need to. Short story is for every order received our sales and design team will review the notes and contact you in 24 ours, if they need to. This is really help full when things that can not be done in Protocase Designer, yet, is needed. Other than directly ordering through Protocase Designer we are pretty flexible, if you want to, we can do it another way just let me know if you need help(emails/phone calls).

I don't think you are the only person to have the requirement to move screws in Protocase Designer. I bet most of the time users get Protocases's design services team help modify their design. I agree this is so common we should just let users update the position. I'll bring this up to the team and see what we can do.

Let me know if you have any more questions and thanks for the feedback!
