new version 4.2

Post by bent »

I try so many times on different CPU to run the version 4.1.9, and never work...

I write to the support to get some help, and they could'nt find the problem and suggest me to wait for the 4.2 ...

Now i try to run 4.2 on 2 different CPU, and guess what ! ... still not working....
1 - launcher.exe is starting every time i start the program
2 - after program start, i have the menu to choose the template ( that i didnt have with 4.1.9) so this problem is solved...
3 - i choose the case... in my case it's the rackmount , so choose the color, etc ... clic OK , and then ...the mouse change to the round blue thing (searching/creating) but nothing happen, always stay in search/create mode...

i have one CPU running on windows XP, and this one is running on Windows 7 ...

So does anyone can help me, or suggest me another Free Designer Program that really work ! I'm really frustated about this program.... I write here to get some help cause I think that if I write again to the support they will tell me to wait for the 4.3 :?

Can you look in your My Documents\ProtocaseDesigner folder and send me any .log files you find? Also, can you run glview? It can be found at http://www.realtech-vr.com/support/download.php

this will let us know if the problem is with the video card support (which can often be solved with new drivers)

I am sorry you are having difficulties, and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. This is a step forward, now if you could provide me with the debug.log and error.log (if it exists) from your My Documents\ProtocaseDesigner library I may be able to figure out why it doesn't run on your computers.

The problem seems related with locale - at least this is my guess.

Looking at the debug file, I see errors due to mathematical operation where commas are mixed with dots.

After setting locale to English/USA (instead than Italian)... whoops! The problem disappeared and now Designer works :D

Hope this helps

Cheers

I confirm that switching the locale to US English enables the program to work, but it must be something else than the decimal separator, because first I changed only that, then also the thousands separator, then also the list separator, but the program was still unusable. It worked only after changing the overall country setting.

As I cannot stay with US-style locale I changed the program back to 3.xx and waiting for a fix for the newer version.

Other than that the Java file dialog in the new version is horrible. Can we hope for an OS-specific tuning of dialogs ?

I have the country part fixed, and after some testing I will put it out. I agree Java file dialogs aren't great - when I get a chance I will think about calling up OS specific dialogs but there are a lot of other things that will come first - there is still a fair bit of instability on certain platforms (ATI graphics cards) that we need to deal with.

As soon as I have a good version with the country fix I will let you know and send a link.
