how gets masked a stud on anodized aluminium front panel ?

Post by secarica »

Suppose I specify aluminium for front panel on whatever U rackmount enclosure, without handles. Apart from the standard 5 studs that fixes with the rest of the enclosure, suppose I want to add also some custom studs.

If I specify anodizing process, how gets masked all those studs on the anodized surface on front ?

Perhaps the default standard 5 studs have to be just visible plain screws on front surface ? I am thinking about the required solidity when the rackmount weight happen to be held in the aluminium front panel only.

Custom studs are usually masked during anodizing with plugs or temporary fasteners, so the visible front surface stays clean while threaded areas remain usable.
Wishing you a wonderful day, filled with joy and everything going smoothly :)

Yes, masking with silicone plugs or temporary fasteners is common, especially to protect threads. If the panel is expected to carry structural load, it may also be worth confirming whether the studs are pressed in before anodizing or installed afterward, since that affects both masking and strength.
