Protocase Designer on Linux
I have installed Protocase Designer on Linux (Ubuntu 9) using Wine. The installation appeared to work perfectly. There were 2 hitches however: Silkscreens can't display You can still export a silkscreen template, modify it, and submit it with your order Estimation/ Ordering doesn't work You can emai...

Running Protocase Designer on Mac OSX
So far the only way I have been able to run Protocase Designer on a Mac is to install Windows in a Virtual Machine using VMWare Fusion or sun's VirtualBox. When doing so, you must disable the 3D hardware acceleration because so far, both these options are buggy and will crash when using textures. Di...

Re: countersink small holes?
We can countersink holes (provided there is room to do so of course). We can't specify it in designer but if you include notes about what holes you want countersunk in the special instructions when ordering, our engineers will take care of it for you. Future versions of designer will have countersin...

Re: Can't run new 3.12 version
There will be a maintenance release shortly that will fix this issue. We build on windows 2000 for backwards compatibility and every once in a while this bites us as in this case. Our windows xp machines we test on had this driver. It will be included in the maintenance update. Also, you could downl...

Re: need to place hole/cutout in interference region
Can you tell me what type of box you are trying to place these holes and which face? Some of the keepouts are conservative, and some are not.

Re: Silkscreen Logo image reversed
Hello, I apologize for the inconvenience. Are you using the latest version of Protocase Designer? The current version is 3.11 and was released last November. It fixed the reversing silkscreen bug to the best of our knowledge. If you are using 3.11 and are seeing this error, could you send me an emai...

Cutout Placement to Align with Standoffs
One of the most common questions we get is how to account for the material thickness when trying to align say a DB-9 connector to a circuit board sitting on standoffs. Fortunately, standoffs aren't actually attached to the inside surface - they are embedded in the face. This means that if the measur...

Re: change stud direction?
There are two ways of placing studs facing outwards:
Thank you,
--Douglas Ronne
- Place the stud
- right-click on the stud and de-select the "faces inside of case" checkbox
- select the stud to place but don't place it
- press the middle button on your mouse
- place the stud
Thank you,
--Douglas Ronne

dxf file import for cutouts
The next version (Designer 3.12) will be able to import dxf files as cutouts. This will enable better coordination between mechanical engineers and users of protocase designer. It is usually no big deal for someone to whip out a cutout in something like Solidworks to spec and make a DXF file and now...

Re: Protocase Designer version 3.12 Features
In the new version we will be able to put silkscreens closer to the edge but there is a very good reason for not being able to put cutouts and pems near the edge. If a cutout is too close to a bend, it will not bend properly. If there is an overlap behind a face, the area you can't place on gets lar...
