I was able to get jdesigner working after patching and rebuilding the jogl library. I wasted quite a bit of time before I realized that jdesigner ships its own version of jogl-all.jar and doesn't use the system libraries. I couldn't figure out why one previously not working java program started work...

Looks like it is fixed in jogl 2.3.3, but I only have jogl 2.3.2 available at the moment. I will see if I can find an updated jogl package to test.

Colin, that is good to know, and interesting that a nominally "worse" driver in the sense of an older OpenGL version is working fine with open-jdk. Do you happen to know if it is possible to force Mesa to report an older version of the OpenGL API? I don't know what to make of this "not mapped" respo...

I am also using openjdk, that may have some differences compared to the version that Oracle packages. I thought they were pretty close to each other now, but I don't know all the details of how java gets packaged.
