Running Protocase Designer without Administrator Privileges

Postby dronne on Thu Mar 18, 2010 1:47 pm

Previous versions of protocase designer needed administrative privileges to run. Now, they are only needed to install. If you have to operate as a limited user on your computer, here are the steps:
  • Download the latest version of Protocase Designer (released today, Thursday the 18th of March 2010)
  • Right-Click and select Run As Administrator to install the program
  • Right-Click on the installed program and select Run As Administrator
    • if you have not already registered, do so now, you won't be able to later
  • set the security settings for the install directory to full access for your user
    • Using XP Pro, right click on the c:\Program Files\Protocase Designer\ folder - select properties
    • find the security tab
    • add user - select your user
    • click full access

Note, if you are using XP Home there are two methods of accessing this security tab. One is to download a patch from microsoft's website. The second which I used is to boot into safe mode and log in as administrator. Then the security tab becomes available. I have not had a chance to test this on Vista or Windows 7, but I expect similar results.
